Hill Voice, 10 August 2026, Khagrachari Correspondent: Several Bengali settlers have been accused of occupying ancestral land belonging to a Jumma villager and building a house there at midnight despite a court order in Gamaridhala of Khagrachari Union under Khagrachari Sadar Upazila. The incident has created tension and concern in the area.

According to local sources, on the night of August 8, Md. Moinul Islam, Md. Samad, Sahera Begum, and several others from Natun Para in Gamaridhala Mouza allegedly entered the land and built a house. The original owner of the land was the late Pari Mohan Chakma, who was displaced by the Kaptai Dam. He had been granted 7.95 acres of land under R.S. Khatian No. 05 in Mouza No. 256, Gamaridhala. After his death, his heirs have continued to possess the land.

Fearing an attempt to occupy the land, Bairi Mitra Chakma, son and heir of Pari Mohan Chakma, filed a case under Section 145 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on July 29, 2025. Following an investigation and a report supporting the plaintiff’s possession, Khagrachari Additional District Magistrate Hasan Maruf ruled in his favor on April 23, 2026, and prohibited the defendants from entering the land. Despite the court order, the accused allegedly entered the land at midnight on August 8 and built a house.

Bagish Chakma, a family member of the landowner, said that a written complaint had been submitted to Khagrachari Police Station. Police visited the site and instructed the accused to stop construction and leave the area, but they allegedly refused to vacate the land. Bagish Chakma demanded the immediate removal of the illegally built house and the arrest of those involved in the alleged occupation.
