Hill Voice, 14 December 2023, Jurachhari: An intensive army operation was reportedly conducted in Maidong union of Jurachari Upazila under Rangamati hill district. It has been alleged that during the operation, at least 2 houses were searched and their belongings were ransacked.
On December 13 and 14, an army patrol group of 18 personnel led by a lieutenant and Naik Subedar Tohid from Shilchari and Fakirachari army camps under Banajogichara zone of Jurachari upazila reportedly took position at Hajachari Government Primary School at first.
From the school, today (14 December 2023), they searched the house of Sarat Kumar Chakma son of late -Satish Chandra Chakma at 9.45 am.
Reportedly, later at 2.30 pm, the army randomly searched the house of Basanta Chakma son of late Maratto Chakma in ward no. 2 under Maidong union no. 3. It is said that during the search, his furniture of the house was razed, trade book-paper and bank check book were torn up.
Apart from searching the two houses, the army personnel also searched the shops of the village extensively. They attempted to embarrass the villagers by various harassing interrogation- Why do you not give consent to develop roads? Why do you not inform us when the terrorists come and where do the terrorists live? All of you know where the terrorists are.
