Jumma wedding house searched by army in the name of finding terrorists in Suvalong

Hill Voice, 14 May 2021, Rangamati: It has been alleged that the Bangladesh Army surrounded a Jumma wedding ceremony and searched the marriage house in Suvalong Union of Barkal Upazila under Rangamati Hill District.

It is learnt that the members of the army cordoned off the wedding ceremony and searched the marriage house on the pretext of searching for some members of Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) and Juba Samiti in the name of searching for terrorists.

According to local sources, on May 13, 2021 at noon the marriage ceremony of Subhash Kanti Chakma was being held at his house in Baghachola village of Suvalong Union. During the ceremony, at around 1:20 pm, a group of 13 Army personnel from Suvalong 20 Bir Army Zone went to the wedding house and cordoned off the wedding venue and then entered the wedding house without permission and conducted a search.

At that time, there was panic among the people present at the wedding and the ceremony was disrupted.

At that time, the army personnel harassed the people present by interrogating them whether they know them, showing pictures of some members of Jana Samhati Samiti and Juba Samiti on their mobile phones, mentioning their names, calling them ‘terrorists’ and asking various questions.

It is learnt that the five persons sought by the Army personnel as terrorists are- (1) Kamanashish Chakma, Member, JSS, Suvalong Union Committee; (2) Smritibindu Chakma, Member, do; (3) Binimoy Chakma, Member, do; (4) Sushil Jiban Chakma, President, Juba Samiti, Suvalong Union Committee and (5) Chhotan Chakma, Member, Juba Samiti, Suvalong Union Committee.
