Hill Voice, 11 August 2021, Rangamati: Indraban Tanchangya, 35, who was arrested in a false case, was released on bail from Rangamati Jail in Rangamati Hill District. However, Bangladesh Army arrested him from the jail gate and sent him back to jail. Despite being released on bail for the second time, Indraban Tanchangya had to go to jail again due to entangling in a false case filed by the army.

According to local sources, Indraban Tanchangya was released on bail by the court in Rangamati on August 9, 2021 at 11:00 am. Indraban Tanchangya came out of the jail gate at around 6:00 pm after completing the procedures of bail order. As soon as he left, a group of army members picked up Indraban Tanchangya from the jail gate.

After detaining Indraban Tanchangya in an unknown place overnight, the army handed him over to Kotwali Police Station in Rangamati on August 10, 2021 at around 11:30 am. It is learnt that the army has brought new false allegations against Indraban Tanchangya and involved him in the murder case of former president of Bilaichhari Upazila Awami League Suresh Tanchangya. At present Indraban Tanchangya is again sent to Rangamati Jail.

Indraban Tanchangya’s home is in Ghilamukh Amtali Para village of Gaindya union in Rajasthali upazila under Rangamati district. He is the eldest son of the late Bhaladhan Tanchangya and Murungi Tanchangya.

According to the sources concerned, in 2019, the army for the first time took Indraban Tanchangya from the village and handed him over to the police after being involved in a false case. After Indraban Tanchangya was released from Rangamati jail on bail on May 25, 2021, the army took him back from the jail gate on the same day. Later, the army entangled him in the murder case of Basu Chakma from Baghaichari and again arranged to send Indraban Tanchangya to jail.

It may be mentioned that on May 8, 2021, the army raided the house of his father-in-law in Kaptai upazila bordering Rajasthali upazila, captured his younger brother Sonaram Tanchangya (28) from Bhalukya area and sent him to jail.

It is learnt that Indraban Tanchangya and Sonaram Tanchangya have been cooperating in various democratic programs of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) but they have been inactive for a long time.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Murungi Tanchangya, the helpless mother of Indraban Tanchangya and Sonaram Tanchangya, has become mentally disoriented due to such unjust and inhumane behavior of the army.

One rights activist, speaking on condition of anonymity, angrily said that the army in the Chittagong Hill Tracts seems to be above the court of law by virtue of ‘Operation Uttoron’, de facto military rule in CHT. They can also refuse or break the court’s bail order if they wish.
