Hill Voice, 11 August 2020, Netrokona: When the husband protested against eve-teasing of his wife, the husband was beaten by the harassers. The incident took place on Sunday (9 August 2020) at around 7:00 pmatGohalideo village of Durgapur police station in Netrokona district.
SagarRangsa, an eyewitness to the incident, said that husband Simon Rema was going to his house from his uncle’s house with his wife. This time they were followed by Rabbi alias Laden and his two friends. At one point, the harassing Laden saw Simon Rema’s wife and started singing obscene songs.
An altercation broke out between the two when husband Simon Rema forbadeLaden from singing obscene songs. There are also clashes at one stage from the altercation. Later, the people in the sand pit settled them. Then Simon and his wife went home.
On the other hand, Md. Laden could not accept the compromise and brought 20/25 more people by calling on his mobile phone. Then they went to Simon’s house, abused him, and threatened to kill him. On their way back, Md. Laden and his group were stopped by villagers. While the villagers who tried to know why he teased Simon’s wife, at that time, instead of reply Laden’s group attacked the villagers too.
In this attack, Simon Rema and 4 others from the village were injured. The miscreants hit someone on the back, head and hands with sharp weapons, causing bloody wounds. When the incident was later reported to the police, Laden fled with his gangas police arrived at the scene. Five injured people have been admitted to Durgapur Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Durgapur police station visited the spot. Simon Rema filed a case with the Durgapur police station on the evening of August 10, naming Laden as the main accused and naming 10/15 others. Police have not made any arrests since the report was written.
