Hill Voice, 9 November 2022, Rangamati: It has been alleged that the Bengali settlers have built houses occupying the mango and litchi plantations of two Jumma villagers in Ward No. 8 of Bhushanchara Union of Barkal Upazila under Rangamati District.

According to local sources, 4-5 settlers under the leadership of Md Jahangir (28) son of Md Sarwar (46) occupied the land belonging to Jumma people and built a house at approximately 10:00 am last Sunday (November 6).

The land owners are Pranamoy Chakma (40), son of Amar Kanti Chakma and Doyel Bikash Chakma (42) son of Ashok Kumar Chakma.

The victims Pranmoy Chakma and Doyal Bikash Chakma alleged that KATEEN CHIBAR DANA was held and most of the villages went to participate in the event. During that time, 4-5 Bengali settlers including Md. Jahangir came to our plantation and built houses there.

When Md. Jahangir was contacted over mobile phone, he rather got angry and abused in various ways. Besides, he threatened saying that the result would not be good if the houses were demolished.

Doyal Bikash Chakma added that the area where the houses were built is about 4 acres. There was my lychee plantation while Parnamony Chakma have mango plantation. Earlier, the settler person, Md. Jahangir tried to occupy this land for several times.

Although they have reported the matter to the administration repeatedly, but they have not got any solution, rather they are being harassed.

‘We again want to draw attention of the administration and demand a fair solution’ he said it expressing deep grief and anger.
