According to a secret source, the killings were carried out by the terrorists of Mog Paaty, another terrorist group supported by the army, due to a feud between them over maintaining their dominance in the area and extortion.

According to local sources, the incident took place at around 4:00 pm on March 15 in Brickfield area between Punorbasan Chakma Para and Range office of the Forest Department of Tonkabati Union.

The deceased was identified as JwalantaTanchangya, a resident of Chingkhyong area of Rajasthali upazila under Rangamati district. He was currently working as a collector (extortionist) for the UPDF (Democratic) party in the Tonkabati area of Bandarban.

According to eyewitnesses, Jwalanta Tanchangya was shot dead by a group of armed men while he was moving on a motorbike to extort money in a local Brickfield area of Tonkabati.

According to a source who did not want to be named, a year ago, the army came to the UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist group from Rajasthali of Rangamati and Khagrachari to Bandarban to intensify the incidents of repression, abduction, murder and other terrorist activities upon leaders and supporters of PCJSS in Bandarban. From then on, a rivalry broke out between the Mog Party and other two groups namely UPDF (Democratic) & the Reformist terrorists over the dominance of the area.

The source added that the army had recently expressed dissatisfaction with the terrorist activities of the UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist terrorists. As a result, the army recently took the initiative to intensify terrorist activities with the ‘Mog Party’ in Bandarban district. It is learnt that the army has already held several conspiratorial secret meetings with the concerned quarters including the representatives of the Mog Party for the same.

In this context, Jwalanta Tanchangya has been killed as a result of the conflict between the Mog Party and other two army-backed group namely the UPDF (Democratic) and the Reformist groups over maintaining dominance and extortion in various areas of Bandarban, including the Tonkabati area, the source said.
