A Jumma youth shot dead by an army-backed Reformists in Dighinala

Hill Voice, 28 June 2020, Khagrachari:  A Jumma youth was allegedly shot dead by army-backed Reformist armed terrorists in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari district. The incident took place on 28 June 2020 Sunday morning, in the remote Bishnu Karbaripara (Hajapara) of Merung Union of the Dighinala, 15 km away from Upazila headquarters.

The deceased has been identified as Dharmajoy Tripura (28). He is a resident of Babrubahan Headman Para in Boalkhali union of Dighinala upazila.

According to local sources, on Sunday morning, Dharmajoy Tripura came out of his house to have tea at a tea shop and was shot from an ambush by army-backed Reformist members.

At this time Dharmajoy was slightly injured. But while he was running away wounded and shot dead on the spot when the armed terrorists fired a few more rounds.

Dighinala Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Uttam Chandra Deb said the killings may have been due to an attack by the opposition. The scene is extremely inaccessible. Police have left for the spot to recover the body. After recovery, the body will be sent to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

According to local sources, the armed activities, kidnappings and extortion of the Reformist group have increased in recent times. The extortion from thousands of money to lakhs is being collected from the people. It is known that people are being beaten if they cannot pay the extortion.

It has been alleged that the security and law enforcement forces are not taking any action against the atrocities of the Reformist terrorists, despite the complaints were being put. On the contrary, it is known that the complainants are receiving death threats.
