2 Jummas beaten and fined by army-backed armed terrorists in Jibtali

Hill Voice, 20 June 2020, Rangamati:  It has been alleged that two innocent Jumma villagers were severely beaten and illegally fined Tk 140,000 by army-backed UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist armed terrorists at Jibtali Union of Rangamati Sadar Upazila under Rangamati Hill District.

According to local sources, an armed group of UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist terrorists stationed in Jibtali Union recently ordered Sagar Chakma (38), son of Prahlad Chakma and Suresh Chandra Chakma (47), son of Paisa Ram Chakma, both residents of Kamilachhari village in the adjoining Magban Union to meet with them.

Accordingly, on 18 June 2020, Thursday at around 10:00 am, Sagar Chakma and Suresh Chandra Chakma went to meet the UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist members at Jibatali Chairman Para. Soon after the meeting, army-backed armed terrorists tied up Sagar Chakma and Suresh Chandra Chakma and beaten them inhumanely.

They then fined Tk 140,000 comprising of each Tk 70,000 and released them at around 12:00 noon. They have set a deadline to hand over the money (fine) to the UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist terrorists by 30 June 2020.

Besides, the UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist terrorists have instructed that Sagar Chakma and Suresh Chandra Chakma will not be able to have any relationship with the PCJSS. On the other hand, the terrorists put condition that the victims must inform them if the victims find any hiding place of the members of the PCJSS and will not go anywhere without their permission.

It may be mentioned that on 31 May 2020, an armed group of Reformist and UPDF (Democratic) terrorists with the escort of Bangladesh army reached the Chairman Para of Jibtali Union under Rangamati Sadar Upazila.

Soon after their arrival, they started terrorizing, extorting, beating, killing and harassing the people of the surrounding areas, including the Jibtali Union and these atrocities are on the rise.
