Hill Voice, 10 August 2020, Rangamati: It is alleged that an innocent villager was shot dead by army-backed UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist armed group in Jibtali Union of Rangamati Sadar Upazila and later the dead body was concealed with the help of army and Muslim settlers.
According to local sources, on 7 August 2020 Friday night at around 1:00 am an innocent villager named Arun Bikash Chakma was shot dead by the UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist terrorists at Chairman Para of Jibtali Union.
According to local sources, the body of the deceased was drowning in the water of Kaptai Lake. The dead body was floated in the lake in Jibtali area at 11:30 am on 9 August.
Shortly after receiving the body of the deceased, a group of army members from Gabaghona camp with some Muslim settlers came to the check post of the UPDF (Democratic) and Reformist armed group (adjacent to the house of Adhir Chakma alias Hegera) and picked up the body. No clues have yet been found as to where the body was taken.
On the other hand, the UPDF (Democratic) armed group terrorists informed public representatives of Jibtali Union that the body would not be handed over to relatives and the body would be dumped in the river.
Due to the incident, on 8 August 2020 the terrorists closed Amal Chakma’s shop at Jibtali. Besides, the terrorists have reportedly ordered Padmashikha Chakma, a reserved seat female member of Ward No. 1, 2 and 3 of Mogban Union, to be present at the terrorists’ base (hideout) at Adhir Chakma’s (Hegera) house by 10 am on 10 August, along with the local chairman, headman, Karbai and 5/6 dignitaries.
On 31 May 2020, the army escorted an armed group of Reformists and the UPDF (Democratic) to the Chairman Para of Jibtali Union under Rangamati Sadar Upazila. Since then, armed terrorists have been killing, kidnapping, extorting ransom and extorting money from the local people in Jibtali area, under the shelter of the army.
