Idols of goddess Durga vandalized in Boalmari of Faridpur, 2 arrested

Hill Voice, 21 October 2020, Faridpur: Police have arrested two youths for vandalizing idols of worship temple in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur district. The incident took place at Ramdia village in Satoir union of the upazila on 20 October 2020 Tuesday night.

The arrested persons are Nayan Sheikh (22) and Raju Mridha (17) of the same area.

According to the locals, residents of RamdiaKarmakarpara area of Satoir Union of the upazila arrange worship of goddess Durga every year by constructing a temporary fence with tin sheets at Karmakarpara universal worship temple of Durga.

This year too all the preparations for the worship have been completed. But on Tuesday night, when the people in charge of the maintenance of the temple went to have dinner, the local unidentified miscreants entered the temple and broke the head, arms and legs of the Durga idol and Saraswati idol.

General Secretary of worship temple Mrinal Karmakar filed a case against unknown persons in connection with the vandalism of the idol.

Boalmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam said police raided the village at night and arrested two youths named Nayan Sheikh and Raju Mridha on suspicion of vandalizing the idols.

Meanwhile, UpazilaNirbahi Officer (UNO) Jhotan Chanda, Additional Superintendent of Police Anisuzzaman of Madhukhali Circle and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Aminul Islam and other officials of the Upazila Puja Celebration Committee visited the spot.

ArunMondol, general secretary of Faridpur Puja UdjapanParishad said Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar and Superintendent of Police Alimuzzaman have been informed to take necessary legal action in this regard.
