Human chain and submission of memorandum in protest of torture of indigenous people in Ullapara

Hill voice, 13 September 2020, Sirajganj: A protest procession and a human chain was held in front of the Upazila Parishad on Sunday (September 13) at 11:00 am at the initiative of the Ullapara Committee of the Jatiya Adivasi Parishad, in protest of burglary at Sri Sri Jagadishwari Mata temple in Chaitrahati village of Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district, temple vandalism, attempted theft of idols, grabbing of temple premises by land grabbers, false cases against indigenous Munda community, torture and persecution.

Jatiya Adivasi Parishad Ullapara Upazila Convener Sushil Mahato presided over the human chain. Jatiya Adivasi Parishad Central Committee Presidium Member Ramanath Mahato, Office Secretary Subhash Chandra Hembrum, Natore District President Pradeep Lakra, General Secretary Kalidas Roy (Munda), Pabna District General Secretary Ashik Banias, Adivasi Chhatra Parishad Central Committee President Nakul Pahan, CPB Sirajganj District General Secretary Mostafa Nurul Amin, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad of Upallapara Upazila former General Secretary Ramkrishna Adhikari among others spoke in the protest.

Speakers at the human chain said that the indigenous people of Chaitrahati village are in extreme insecurity as a result of repeated torture and oppression for a long time. The speakers demanded justice for the indigenous people (Munda), including the ensuring of security, withdrawal of false cases against the indigenous people and trial for land grabbers involved in land grabbing.

Before the human chain, a protest procession started from Shyamlipara Bazar and ended in front of the Upazila Parishad. Human chains were held there. After the human chain, a memorandum was handed over to the Prime Minister through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Ullapara upazila.
