Garo mother and son attacked by miscreants in Madhupur

Hill Voice, 12 August 2020, Tangail: Miscreants attacked Garo mother and son in Madhupur of Tangail district. The incident took place at 11 am on Saturday (August 8) at Jangalia village in Beribaid Union of the upazila.

According to local sources, the miscreants destroyed crops of Sachuna Chambugangye (45). When the indigenous women went to protest, Mohammad Abul Kalam and Mohammad Karim of the same village attacked the mother and son. The two were seriously injured. They were later admitted to Madhupur Upazila Government Hospital for treatment.

The victim’s family has lodged a complaint and a general diary with Madhupur police station.

Meanwhile, after the incident, the perpetrators have been constantly threatening and intimidating the affected indigenous families. An arbitration meeting was held at Beribaid Union Parishad locally the day before yesterday to resolve the incident.

The meeting was also attended by Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Jastina Nakrek, Beribaid Union Parishad Chairman Julhas Uddin and other local UP members. On the contrary, the victim’s family has alleged that the miscreants are continuing to pose a threat.

Bangladesh Adivasi Chhatra Sangram Parishad, Garo Students Federation and Bagachas have strongly condemned and protested the barbaric attack on Garo mother and son and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
