Family of an indigenous woman under house arrest in Natore’s Lalpur

Hill Voice, 14 October 2020, Natore: The family of Basanti Rani Sardar, an indigenous woman, is now in under house arrest of the land grabber Samad Bahini of Duaria Union in Lalpur of Natore district. The locals, who did not want to be named, alleged that the land grabber Samad Bahini had done this to occupy all the recorded assets of the father of the indigenous Basanti Rani Sardar.

It is learnt that all the assets of the indigenous woman, Basanti Rani Sardar, have been usurped by the land grabber Samad and his gang year after year.

Some elders in the area, who did not want to be named, said that Samad and some of his men were forcibly occupying the recorded land of Basanti Rani Sardar’s father.

In this regard, Basanti Rani Sardar said, “All the resources recorded by my father are being occupied by the land grabber Samad and his gang. We four sisters tried to opposed, when Samad and his gang came to occupy my house. At that time, my four sisters including me were forced us out of the house and broke the house.”

Basanti rani further added, I immediately called the police and when the police came, they took away the tin and bamboo poles from my broken house. Later I went to the police station and lodged a complaint against 8 people including the land grabber Samad.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalpur Police Station Selim Reza said there was a complaint in this regard and legal action would be taken subject to investigation.
