Two Jummas detained by army in Kaptai and Manikchari

Hill Voice, 17 October 2020, Rangamati and Khagrachari: The Bangladesh army has arrested two Jummas from two separate places in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district and Manikchhari upazila of Khagrachhari.

Angsuipru Marma (50) a resident of Chitmaram Union in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district, by fabricating him as an accused, has been arrested by the army. The arrested Angsuipru Marma is a resident of Maidang Para. His father’s name is Thoaicha Marma.

Chandraghona Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury said Angsaipru Marma, a resident of Chhota Maidang Para in Chitmaram was detained in a raid on 16 October 2020 Friday.

Angsuipru Marma’s wife said, ‘A false case has been filed in my husband’s name on the instructions of the Awami League president of Chitmaram union. My husband has not killed anyone and is innocent.’ So she demanded the release of her husband.

On the other hand, yesterday on 16 October 2020 at late night the army detained another innocent Jumma named Kongjo Marma (24), son of Mongla Marma from Manikchhari upazila of Khagrachhari district.

The source said that in the middle of the night on yesterday, a group of army led by Captain Md. Wali Ullah, commander of Batnatali army camp raided the village of Sindu Para on the border of Manikchhari-Ramgarh upazila. At that time, the army detained Kongjo Marma from his house and took him to the camp.

It is learnt that arrested Kongjo Marma was handed over to the police station today (17 October) morning by putting arms (LG) with him and labeling him an UPDF activist after torturing physically.

Locals said the arrestee was an innocent villager. The members of the army woke him up at late night and took him away. They also alleged that he was falsely framed.
