Hostage of 2 villagers including Karbari by army-backed armed terrorists in Bandarban

Hill Voice, January 9, 2022, Bandarban: It has been alleged that army and ruling Awami League-backed UPDF (Democratic) armed terrorists detained Karbari and his companion for 5 days from Punarbasan Chakma Para in Tonkabati Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila taking them to their office by calling over phone and released them later in exchange for a large ransom.

The victim Karbari was identified as Bijay Hansa Chakma. However, the name of his companion was not found. On December 27, 2021, the terrorists called the two of them to their office on the phone and held them hostage.

According to local sources, on December 27, 2021, UPDF (Democratic) terrorists called Bijay Hanas Chakma and his accomplice to be present to their office in Balaghata and detained them for five days.

The terrorists demanded three lakh takas as ransom for their release. Later, on January 4, 2022, the terrorists released Bijay Hansa Chakma and his accomplice in exchange for two lakh and twenty-five thousand takas.

It is learnt that the victim Bijay Hansa Chakma has been made hostage as he is a supporter of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord.

The incident of hostage of Bijay Hansa Chakma and his accomplice and collection of ransom from them was allegedly carried out by Bandarban district director of the UPDF (Democratic) group Sulen Chakma, in charge of administration Anupam Chakma (Anu) and Waimong Marma.
It is learnt that G-2 of of Bandarban Brigade Office, Major Md. Ershad Ullah, assisted in arresting Karbari and his companion and collecting ransom. Sources confirmed that the ransom money was shared between Major Md. Ershad Ullah, Sulen Chakma, Anupam Chakma and Waimong Marma.
