Hill Voice, 24 January 2022, Bandarban: An innocent grocer named Roximong Marma (40) has been arrested at Dulupara army check post in Kuhalong union of Bandarban Sadar upazila.
The incident took place last Wednesday (January 19) at 6:00 pm. The army claimed that Taka 7 lakh 18 thousand have been recovered from Roximong Marma.
The arrested Roximong Marma is the son of Memong Marma, from Karogor Para of Ward N. 5 of Raikhali union in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district. It is learnt he has a grocery store in Karigor Para.
According to local sources, at around 6:00 pm on Wednesday the army personnel on duty at Dulupara check post in Bandarban under the leadership of Captain Sajedur Rahman, the camp commander of the Dulupara camp of 5 EB, searched Roximong Marma, a motorcycle passenger, and detained him along with Tk 7 lakh 18 thousand in cash.
After the arrest, the army accused Roximong Marma of being an extortionist of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) and claimed that the money recovered from Roximong Marma was extortion money.
According to local sources, the money recovered from Roximong Marma belonged to a bank employee named Babul Marma. Babul Marma sold his land to a BGB empleyee for his treatment and Roximong Marma was detained by the army at Dulupara check post while carrying the money.
A public representative from Dulupara, who did not want to be named, said that in the name of so-called security, the army regularly searches and harasses innocent people at the Dulupara check post.
However, the Mog Party, the Reformists and the UPDF (Democratic) armed terrorists travel through the road of that check post with weapons. He expressed his displeasure that the terrorists were not caught in the search by the army.
For example, on the night of December 12, 2021, the armed terrorists of Mog Party went to Chemi Dulupara in a B70 vehicle from Powaitu Para and abducted Pushoithowai Marma at gunpoint and shot him dead at Amtalipara.
He further added that in the so-called security check of the army, it is not safe for ordinary innocent people to travel with their own money.
Sources further said that the Mogh Party terrorists came to know about the money being carried by Roximong Marma and accordingly the army arrested Roximong Marma with the money based on the news of Mog Party members.
