An innocent Jumma detained, tortured and falsely accused by army in Kaptai

Hill Voice, 12 May 2021, Rangamati: It has been alleged that an innocent Jumma was detained, beaten and falsely accused by the army in Raikhali of Kaptai upazila under Rangamati Hill District. It is learnt that the army detained the man in their camp and handed him over to the Chandraghona police station after torturing him all the night.

The victim was identified as Mithyaban Tanchangya (52), son of Raimohan Tanchangya, village-Bhalukya, Raikhali Union. He is known as a farmer by profession.

According to local sources, at around 8:00 pm on May 10, 2021, a group of army numbering 8-10 people led by Subedar Nazmul, Commander of the newly established Bhalukya Narangiri No.1 Army Camp, went to the house of Mithyaban Tanchangya in a jeep and took him to the camp by detaining and blindfolding him. The army detained Mithyaban Tanchangya in the camp all the night and beat him inhumanely, leaving scars all over his body, including his eyes and face.

The next day (May 11, 2021), the family of Mithyaban Tanchangya, when went to Bhalukya Narangiri No.1 Army Camp to search for Mithyaban Tanchangya, the camp authority denied the arrest of Mithyaban Tanchangya. At that time, the army personnel asked the family members to look for Mithyaban Tanchangya elsewhere.

Later, the family members of Mithyaban Tanchangya searched the Bangalhalia army camp, Kukimara army camp and the local navy camp, but the incident was also denied there.

Later on the same day, at around 11:00 am, the family of Mithyaban Tanchangya was called from Chandraghona police station by mobile phone of Mithyaban Tanchangya and the family members were asked to contact the Chandraghona police station.

Later, the family members of Mithyaban Thanchangya went to the Chandraghona police station and found out that Mithyaban Tanchangya had been falsely implicated in an old murder case.

It is learnt that the army beat Mithyaban Tanchangya in an inhumane manner all the night detaining him at Bhalukya Narangiri No.1 Army Camp and as a result of the beating, Mithyaban Tanchangya was injured all over his body including his eyes and face.
