Allegation of occupation of government school land by land grabbers in Lama

Hill Voice, 1 October 2021, Bandarban: A land grabber gang led by Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique has been accused of grabbing the land of Lulaingmukh Government Primary School in Lulaing Mouza of Lama Upazila under Bandarban Hill District and filing of a fabricated case against President of School Committee and Headman of Lulaing Mouza Singpash Chowdhury.

A press conference was held on 30 September 2021 at 12:00 noon at the Rupa Mro Hotel in Lama Bazar organized by the Karbaris (village heads) of different villages of Lulaing Mouza and the people of the area.

Singpash Chowdhury, Headman of Lulaing Mouza; Champat Mro, Headman of Sangu Mouza; Chongkok Mro, Karbari of Chongkok Para village; Priya Chakma, Karbari of Lemujhiri Chakma Para village; Nanwai Mro, Karbari of Kachurchara Para village; Delowar Hossain, Sardar of Lulain Muslim Para; Mendan Mro, Karbari of Amrajhiri Para including elders of the area were present at the press conference.

Headmen and Karbaris present at the press conference said that Paya Mro donated the 0.82 acre of land with Holding No. 15 of Lulaing Mouza to Lulaingmukh Para Government Primary School, on the basis of his document No. 845/12. The school building was constructed by LGED on this donated land. At present the children of Lulaingmukh area are studying in this school.

Headmen and Karbaris added that although it is very sad but truth, a land grabber gang led by Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique started a conspiracy to occupy this land donated for the school. Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique is the son of Golam Sobahan of Muslim Para of Poli Mouza under Ruma Upazila. They currently live in Amtali Para of Ward No. 7 of Sorai Union under Lama upazila. The land grabbers led by Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique are carrying out various conspiracies to occupy the school premises.

They further said that when the headman of this mouza, Singpash Chowdhury, took a stand in favor of defending the land of the school, Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique filed a conspiratorial case (Case number 152/2021) against the Headman in the Bandarban Senior Assistant Judge’s Court. According to the description of the case, the case was filed by Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique on the basis of power of attorney from Paya Mro and Sala Wadin Mro, the previous owners of the land. In the Schedule 2 of the said case, Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique gang claimed that they have 0.82 acre of land with Holding No. 15 of Lulaing Mouza. However, Lulaingmukh Government Primary School got the ownership of this land.

Residents of the area alleged that the land grabbers were carrying out various activities to disrupt law and order in the Lulaing mouza area with an aim to grab the said land. The land grabbers sent letters to various departments of the government alleging false and fictitious allegations against the headman, Singpash Mro, taking signatures from Karbari and land residents providing false and organised a press conference at an unknown place in Bandarban on 27 September 2021.

The headmen-Karbaris said that a GD No. 792, dated 22/07/21 has been filed against the land robber Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique gang on behalf of the locals with Lama Police Station.

They called on the government, administration, law enforcement and the public to come forward to protect the school premises by thwarting the plots of the land grabbers.
