A Jumma villager picked up by the army in Rangamati

Hill Voice, 21 September 2021, Rangamati: It has been alleged that a group of Bangladesh army have picked up an innocent Jumma villager from Kaindya area of Balukhali Union in Rangamati Sadar Upazila under Rangamati Hill District.

The victim was identified as Bijay Lal Chakma (46), son of Subrata Chakma, from Kaindya village of Balukhali union under Rangamati Sadar upazila.

According to local sources, when Bijay Lal Chakma was returning home from Rangamati town in a trawler boat at around 2.30 pm on 20 September 2021, an army speed boat arrived at Kaindya Mukh and stopped the trawler boat. At that time, the army personnel wanted to know the passengers of the trawler boat, Bijay Lal Chakma. When Bijay Lal Chakma introduced himself, the army took him off the boat and picked him up.

It is not yet known where did the army keep Bijay Lal Chakma. As of this writing, Bijay Lal has not even handed over Lal Chakma to the police or produced before the court. Meanwhile, Vijay Lal Chakma’s family and locals are deeply concerned about his safety.

According to villagers, Bijay Lal Chakma is a very simple and ordinary villager.
