A Jumma villager abducted by army-backed terrorists in Matiranga, demand Tk 5 lakh ransom

Hill Voice, 4 December 2020, Khagrachari: A Jumma villager named Nagendra Tripura, 60, was allegedly abducted by army-backed Reformist and UPDF (Democratic) terrorists in Matiranga Upazila under Khagrachhari Hill District. After the abduction, the abductors demanded a ransom of Tk 5 lakh from Nagendra Tripura’s family.

According to family sources, Nagendra Tripra, who was first asked to come to the programme on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the CHT Accord, was then abducted by the terrorists on December 2, 2020 at noon. The abducted Nagendra Tripura is a resident of Dehadanta Para in Ward 7 of Gomati Union in Matiranga Upazila and his father’s name is late Surjo Kumar Tripara. He is known to be a local businessman by profession.

According to local sources, the terrorists first called Nagendra Tripura at around 12:00 noon and asked him to come to Matiranga Bazaar for a discussion meeting on the occasion of the anniversary of the CHT Accord. When Nagendra Tripura went there, the terrorists again told him to go to Jaliapara of Guimara. According to them, when Nagendra Tripura went to Jalliapara, the terrorists led by Salen Chakma abducted him from there to an unknown place.

After the abduction, the terrorists demanded a ransom of Tk. 10 lakh from Nagendra Tripura’s family over the phone. However, the next day, on December 3, 2020, the terrorists again called the family members of Nagendra Tripura and demanded Tk. 5 lakh reducing from Tk. 10 lakh.

At the time of writing the report, the abducted Nagendra Tripura has not been released.
