A cultural activist abducted by army-backed Reformists in Dighinala

Hill Voice, 23 May 2020, Khagrachhari:  The founder of Jumma Film Association and eminent cultural activist, Gyanakirti Chakma (45) has been abducted by the Reformist and UPDF (Democratic) terrorists in collaboration with the army in Babuchhara of Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari.

According to local sources, on May 23, 2020, Saturday, at around 12:00 noon Reformist and UPDF (Democratic) armed miscreants stationed at Babuchara Bazar have abducted Gyanakirti Chakma from Udalbagan and took him to Babuchara by a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, after the abduction, the family members could not able to contact to Jnanakirti Chakma, which caused concern among the family members.

Earlier, the miscreants chased another man named Motar Chakma near Ansar camp at Karbari Tila of Dighinala upazila and shot at him. However, he could narrowly escape.

Earlier, army-backed Reformists and UPDF (Democratic) terrorists abducted Sudhir Tripura from Matiranga Bazar on May 8, 2020; Tapan Chakma from Ranirhat in Rangunia of Chittagong on May 14, 2020 and Jidong Chakma alias Darhi from Karengatali bazar in Baghaichhari on May 16, 2020.

The terrorists later released the hostages in exchange for a large ransom. A teacher in Baghaichhari, who did not want to be named, said that the army-backed Reformists and UPDF (Democratic) terrorists had resorted to extortion in the face of the deadly Corona crisis.
