Hill Voice, 22 January 2022, Rangamati: There are allegations that the army-backed UPDF (democratic) and Reformist terrorists have kidnapped 6 persons including two UP chairman candidates in the Union Parishad election under Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati district. This incident happened on today Saturday (January 22).
According to local sources, on Saturday (January 22) at around 10:15 am, a group of army-backed Reformist terrorists took away the chairman candidate of Sarboarati Union Parishad John Chakma (Ratan) from behind the VDP office of Baghaichari upazila.
On the other hand, it is alleged that the terrorists have kidnapped 5 people including the UP Chairman candidate of Sajek Union, Nelson Chairman, and took them away to Babu Para in Baghaichari Upazila.
A former UP member, who is reluctant to publish the name, said the terrorists have given its own independent candidates in several unions, including Rupakari Union in the ongoing UP elections. The terrorists have been patrolling the election office of Baghaichari upazila since morning to win the election of their candidates.
This is the last election of the seventh phase ongoing union parishad in the country. Today, on Saturday (January 22 January 22th) is the last day of withdrawal of the candidatures of Union Parishad elections under Baghaichari upazila.
On the last day of the nomination withdrawal, army-backed Reformist and UPDF (Democratic) terrorists led by Asim Chakma and Gyanajib Chakma have kidnapped 5 persons including chairman candidate of Sajek Union, Nelson Chakma, and member candidate of reserved seat for women of Ward No. 7, 8 & 9 and made them hostage.
The terrorists have taken mobile phones rom the kidnapped people.
Nobody has been released until the report is prepared.
