Hill Voice, 5 October 2021, Rangamati: It has been alleged that a BGB camp is being set up in Baghaihat Hazachara area of Sajek Union in Rangamati by cutting down plantation made by Jumma villagers.
It is learnt that from October 4 to October 5, 2021, BGB members with 10/12 workers are working to set up a camp by cutting down the banana, mango and forest plantations made by two villagers named Priya Kumar Chakma and Kalpa Jyoti Chakma, residents of Hazachara village. The red flag is being hung there soon after the clearing plantations.
The people of the area and the victims have complained that the BGB is forcibly doing this without any discussion with the locals and owners of the plantations.
The owner of the plantation, Kalpa Jyoti Chakma, said that when he wanted to know the reason for cutting down the plantation from the BGB members, the BGB members told him that it is a government land. So, they can do anything in this land.
Meanwhile, locals have expressed dissatisfaction and anger over the setting up of BGB camps by cutting down plantation. They called on the government to immediately stop setting up BGB camps there and provide adequate compensation to the victims.
