Hill Voice, 23 December 2021, Cox’s Bazar: It has been alleged that a group of miscreants tried to rape an indigenous Chakma woman in Huaikeng Union of Teknaf Upazila under Cox’s Bazar district and her father and husband including the victim were also seriously injured in the attack. Locals caught four miscreants from the spot and handed them over to the police.
The incident took place at around 7:00 pm on 22 September 2021 in the Harikhola crematorium area of Huaikeng Union.
Among the injured, 35-year-old Chakma woman was admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Among the other injured were the woman’s father Ukthain Chakma and husband Monglaching Chakma.
According to local sources, the Chakma woman was fishing in the Harikhola crematorium area with her husband and father at that time. When it was evening to catch fish, the woman’s husband sent her home to cook rice. On her way home, some miscreants surrounded the woman and tried to rape her, but she started screaming as much as she could. On hearing the screams, the woman’s father Ukthain Chakma and husband Monglaching Chakma rushed to her rescue, but the miscreants have beaten and injured both of them. At that time, the woman was injured and suffered serious head injuries.
Meanwhile, the locals rushed to the spot hearing the shouting of victim and her husband and father and managed to apprehend four miscreants in red handed.
Sujit Barua, Sirajul Islam (Mostafa), Sohail and Kalu are the four miscreants who tried to rape and attack. They are known to live in the surrounding area. The locals later handed over the arrested miscreants to the police. According to the victims, the number of miscreants who attempted rape and assault was six.
The victim’s family members and locals also demanded immediate arrest of other miscreants and bringing the culprits to justice. Otherwise, they fear that the victims may become victims of more unpleasant incidents.
