Hill Voice, 28 November 2020, Rangamati: It’s learnt that a group of Bangladesh army arrested UP Chairman Khaisa Aung Marma (55) and UP Member Singthowai Marma (50) in a conspiratorial false case from the Chitmaram Union Parishad (UP) office in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati Hill District.
According to local sources, on November 26, 2020 at around 12:30 pm, a group of army members from the Kaptai Army Zone arrested the said two elected representatives from the Chitmaram Union Parishad office. It is learnt that the army later handed over them to the police of the Rajsthali police station as accused in a conspiratorial false case.
It is worth-mentioning that Chairman Khaisa Aung Marma has also been working as the Organizing Secretary of the Kaptai Thana Committee of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) and UP member Singthowai Marma as the Vice-President of the Chitmaram Union Committee of the Jana Samhati Samiti.
According to family sources, the two arrested people representatives did not know themselves as the accused in the case.
It has been alleged that a young man named Tuinumong Marma was shot dead in the internal firing of an army-backed Mag Party in the neighboring Rajsthali Upazila on November 20, 2020 at around 8:00 pm and later died at a hospital in Chittagong.
After that the army conspiratorially forced the family of the killed Tuinumong Marma to file a false case against members, supporters and villagers of the Jana Samhati Samiti. In this, 23 persons and supporters of PCJSS of Kaptai and Rajsthali Upazila and 10-15 unidentified villagers were falsely implicated as accused.
It is learnt that the people involved in the PCJSS were enlisted in the case on the direction of the army.
A local elder of Rajasthali upazila said that none of the accused in the case, including the two arrested, was involved in the killing of Tuinumong Marma. It is the army that has compelled the plaintiff to file the case against these unarmed individuals to destroy the PCJSS and obstruct the movement to implement the CHT Accord.
It may be mentioned that Bikram Marma, president of the Kaptai Thana Committee of PCJSS, was also falsely implicated in the case.
