Hill Voice, 31 August 2020, Cox’s Bazar: A person introduced himself as the staff of the land office at Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar has been accused of forcibly occupying about 36 korha (around 16 decimal) of land belonging to a helpless indigenous Rakhine family. On 26 August 2020 Friday the victim lodged a complaint with Chakaria Police Station alleging that the land was seized by a group of armed miscreants.
Kiyamong Rakhine said that Mamunur Rashid and Mohammad Riaz, with a group of armed men led by Sarwar Kamal, forcibly occupied about 36 korha of my land by making fencing on 28 August Friday around 6:30 am. They threatened to kill him while I tried to stop them.
He also said that a case is pending in the ADC court of Cox’s Bazar regarding the occupied land. How they can occupy a pending land, questioned the helpless Rakhine villager.
Mukul Kanti Das, General Secretary of the Chakaria upazila branch of Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, said, “We have received a complaint about land grabbing.” We are observing the phenomenon.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria police station, Habibur Rahman, said, police were immediately dispatched to the spot on the news of land grabbing. Both sides were called to the police station on Sunday afternoon. He further said that no one has the opportunity to occupy the land by force. If the land of the Rakhine community is forcibly occupied, legal action will be taken.
