No case filed in 7 days for raping a Santal girl in Habiganj

Hill Voice, 22 June 2020, Habiganj:  It has been alleged that no case has been registered yet, although 7 days have passed since the incident of gang rape of an indigenous Santal girl from Daragaon tea garden in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj district and an eighth grade student of Mirpur Girls High School.

The incident of gang rape of the Santal girl by three youths of Daragaon tea garden took place on 16 June 2020 Tuesday at noon at Daragaon Tea Garden. The Santal girl has been admitted to Habiganj Modern District Hospital after falling ill due to brutal violence the youths.

The cousin of victim Dipankar Santal said that on 16 June 2020, at noon, Santal’s adolescent was alone in a house in Paka Line slum in Daragaon tea garden.

On that occasion, three youths named Dipesh Bonarji, Dipal Tantabay and Balu Gowala of Daragaon Tea Garden tied the hands and feet of the girl and raped her in turn putting cloth on victim’s mouth. At one stage of the rape, the girl lost consciousness.

When a teenager named Akash Gowala saw this scene, he was also beaten by three rapists. When this incident was reported in the garden, there was a great commotion. The raped girl has been admitted to Habiganj Modern District Sadar Hospital in critical condition.

Chunarughat Police Station OC Sheikh Nazmul Hossain was contacted and said that many people had informed him about the incident over phone. No one has lodged a written complaint with the police yet. However, the OC said that the police have started investigating the incident.
