Hill Voice, 26 September 2020, Dhaka: The government is implementing a special and separate healthcare program called ‘Tribal Health Program’ to bring the country’s indigenous people (small ethnic groups in official language) into mainstream health care. The Health Department is conducting these activities. A total of 17 districts of the country have been brought under this program to ensure the health care of the backward people.

It is learnt that the government has taken steps to implement it by formulating separate district and upazila based strategies to bring the ethnic minority indigenous people of different plains and coastal areas of the country, including the hill tracts areas, into the mainstream health services.

Through this strategy, coordination will be made with the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Councils and Hill District Councils and local government representatives including the concerned plains and coastal district and upazila administrations for the implementation of tribal health activities.

Relevant departments, donor agencies, NGOs, local leaders, religious leaders, traditional healing workers, school teachers and local people will be involved in the implementation of the program. 17 districts have been included under the program. These districts are Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Bogra, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Joypurhat, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Sherpur, Dinajpur, Patuakhali, Tangail, Sylhet and Moulvibazar.
