An innocent Jumma beaten by army at Farua in Bilaichhari

Hill Voice, 27 December 2020, Rangamati: An innocent Jumma villager named Babul Marma, son of Atuise Marma, was allegedly beaten up by the army at Farua in Bilaichhari upazila of Rangamati Hill District. But the cause of beating was not known.

According to local sources, on December 26, 2020 at around 1:00 pm, a group of army personnel led by Senior Warrant Officer Ramzan Ali, Commander of Toktanala Army Camp in Farua Union, beaten up Babul Marma without any reason.

The beating of Babul Marma by the army without any reason has caused panic and anger among the Jumma villagers of Toktanala.

There are allegations that the army officer has harassed, persecuted and oppressed the Jummas, including women, many times in the past.

It may be mentioned that on November 11, 2020, in the evening, this senior warrant officer of the army, Md. Ramzan Ali, went to a cultural program organized on the occasion of Kathin Chibar Dana at Toktanala Dakshin Para Buddhist Monastery and offered to buy a 16-year-old girl for Tk. 10,000.

At one stage, when the warrant officer in drunken condition wanted to take the girl to the camp by force, but the people stopped him and got involved in a scuffle with the people. The girl later fled the scene and took refuge in a relative’s house.
