Hill Voice, 23 August 2019, Friday, Rangamati: On 23 August 2019 at around 10:00 am one Shanti Moy Chakma was shot dead by the army from Baghaihat zone of 12 Bir Bengal at Keretkaba area of Sajek union under Baghaichari upazila in Rangamati district.
It is learnt that in the morning on that day, three Jumma youths including Shanti Moy Chakma were sitting in front of a shop at Tin-Dopada (tri-junction) of Keretkara area. At that time, army suddenly surrounded the area and run after Shanti Moy Chakma while he was trying to escape. At that time, army hit him with their rifle and finally caught while the victim fell to the ground. After that, army took him in the jungle and shot him to death. However, army falsely claimed that Shanti Moy Chakma was killed in a counter attack while a group of armed miscreants made attack on army patrolling party and two country-made pistols were also recovered from the victim. Army also claimed that Shanti Moy Chakma was a member of UPDF. However, sources confirmed that Shanti Moy Chakma was expelled from UPDF few months ago.
