Hill Voice, 26 September 2020, Khagrachari: Police have arrested 7 people out of 9 people for gang-raping a mentally handicapped Jumma woman and looting valuables of house at Balpiye Adam village of Golabari Union in Sadar upazila of Khagrachhari district. They were arrested in raids in different areas of Chittagong. The names, addresses and details of those arrested were not made public.
According to the case file, the incident took place at around 3:00 am on Wednesday (September 23) at Bindu Lal Chakma’s house of Balpaiyya Adam near to Golabari Union Parishad office in the district headquarters. At that time, members of a group of robbers of the same age gang-raped a mentally handicapped woman in a room tying up her hands, legs and face with scarf. During this time, they took at least 3 gold ornaments including earrings, rings and mobile phone sets.
The mentally handicapped woman is undergoing treatment at Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital. Her medical examination has been completed. The victim is now healthy, said Purna Jiban Chakma, a resident doctor at Khagrachhari Modern District Sadar Hospital.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station Md Abdur Rashid said, “We have conducted raids in different areas of Chittagong and arrested 7 people. Our operation is still going on in Chittagong. We will be able to arrest everyone and reporters will be informed at the end of the operation.”
