4 Corona cases confirmed in Rangamati, cases in CHT stood at 9

Hill Voice, 7 May 2020, Chittagong Hill Tracts:  Four coronavirus patients have been detected in Rangamati district which was the lone district free from the virus in the country. In the three hill districts, including four in Rangamati, the number of coronavirus infected stood at 9.

On 6 May 2020 Wednesday at noon, Rangamati District civil surgeon Dr Bipash Khisa confirmed the development, saying the patients, including a 9-month-old baby, are undergoing treatment at the Rangamati General Hospital.

“We got 198 samples tested at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and four of the reports came back positive for coronavirus,” he said.

Local sources report that a total of 1376 people are now in home-quarantine in Rangamati district while 629 are in institutional quarantine.

Bangladesh confirmed its highest number of coronavirus cases in a single day on Wednesday, with 790 new patients. In total, the country has recorded 11,719 cases and 186 deaths from the virus.

On 13 April 2020, a 55-year-old man with coronavirus symptoms, who was in an isolation centre at Rangamati General Hospital, died.

The man, hailing from Rupnagar of the district town, was admitted to Rangamati General Hospital on April 10 as he was suffering from fever, cold, cough and respiratory problems, said the civil surgeon.

On 17 April 2020 an 18-year-old died with coronavirus-like symptoms in Chittagong General Hospital. The youth was admitted to Baghaichari Health Complex on April as he developed Covid-19 symptoms.

The youth was suffering from respiratory illness, throat pain and fever for the last few days.

Bandanban Hill District:

So far five corona cases were reported to have been identified in Bandarban hill district. According to Civil Surgeon office, among the infected persons, one is a policeman, one is a resident of Baramadok and a man of Marma community.

Earlier, a man, who recently attended an event of Tablig Jamaat, tested positive for coronavirus in Bandarban. The patient is a 70-year old man and a resident of Tumbru Komarpara area in Ghumdhum union of Naikhangchhari upazila.

Bandarban Civil Surgeon Aung Shai Marma said that on April 30, 2020, the corona of a mother and two children was identified in the remote Naikhyongchhari of Bandarban.

Khagrachari Hill Dsitrict:

When the samples were collected on April 22, 2020, the presence of coronavirus was found in the body of a person named Ershad Chakma. From then on, Ershad Chakma and his wife were kept in isolation.

However, after collecting the sample again on May 1, his corona came negative. However, in the third phase, samples were collected and sent to Chittagong.

On the other hand, a young man (23) died on April 19, 2020 Sunday morning, while in quarantine after leaving Dhaka for Khagrachari.

He worked in a garment company in Dhaka. He died at 8:30 am on April 19, while in quarantine at AK Para Government Primary School in Gugrachhari area of ​​Khagrachhari district headquarters.

Himadri Khisa:

It is reported that on 17 April 2020 Kishoreganj Executive Magistrate Himadri Khisa (34th batch) got infected by the virus. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Himadri Khisa fell ill on April

16 while discharging government duties. On the same day her sample was sent to Dhaka for testing. The next day her report came back positive.

She has been in the Home Quarantine ever since. Her corona negative report came on May 4, Monday after the sample test in the third phase.

When the coroner’s report was negative, she was discharged from Bhairab Upazila Health Complex. She is healthy now. AC (land) Himadri Khisa’s home is in Rangamati Sadar area.
