UPDF plotting to destabilize northeastern states including Tripura

Hill Voice, 4 August 2025, International Desk: Allegations have emerged that the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), an anti-CHT Accord organization in Bangladesh, is involved in a plot to destabilize the states of North-East India, including the Indian state of Tripura. This allegation has come from the leaders of the Chakma community in the state of Tripura itself, which has been published in the Tripura news media.

The allegation was raised at an important social meeting of the Chakma community in Bhanu Karbari Para of Notun Bazar police station area of Gomati district of Tripura state yesterday (August 3). It is learnt that various important leaders of the Chakma community, including prominent social leader Debjan Chakma, were present at the meeting.

The leaders at the meeting called the issue worrisome and said that there are many armed groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. Among them, the UPDF is a close organization of the intelligence wings of Bangladesh and Pakistan. The procession that took place in the Notun Bazar of Amarpur subdivision on July 30 as part of the conspiracy of the UPDF was purposefully demanding that the leaders, workers and supporters of the Santu Larma’s party of the Parbatya Chittagram Jana Samhati Samiti should be pushed back to Bangladesh.

When the Accord was signed between the Jana Samhati Samiti and the Bangladesh government on December 2, 1997, the UPDF, which is close to the DGFI, opposed the Accord and since then the DGFI has been conspiring to create unrest in the northeastern region including Tripura. This issue came to the fore as a very sensitive issue during the Yunus government. The UPDF workers associated with the DGFI started a joint campaign. This was manifested in the procession held in the Notun Bazar of Gomati district on July 30.

The meeting of the Chakma community held in Bhanu Karbari Para of Notun Bazar police station area of Gomati district strongly opposed the above conspiracy. In addition, the meeting alleged that the Pakistani intelligence ISI and the Bangladeshi intelligence DGFI are jointly conspiring to create unrest in the northeastern states of India including Tripura. It was mentioned that a procession was suddenly organized in the Notun Bazar police station area on July 30 for such a purpose.

At the meeting, Chakma community leaders also said that only Chakmas are being targeted, while other tribes and Bengali speakers are also infiltrating from the other side. In this situation, Chakma leaders will raise their voice against any kind of anti-India conspiracy and even expressed their opinion that they are ready for a larger movement in the coming days.

It is worth mentioning that on July 30, 2025, under the conspiracy of UPDF, a protest march was organized by 40/45 Chakmas led by Porandhan Chakma and Kartik Chakma in Notun Bazar of Amarpur subdivision of Gomati district of Tripura state, making false and fabricated allegations against JSS, and a memorandum was submitted to the Amarpur subdivisional magistrate.

It is learnt from reliable sources that UPDF (Prasit) paid 25 lakh rupees to Porandhan Chakma and Kartik Chakma for organizing the procession held in Notun Bazar on July 30. The participants were paid 1,500 rupees each for participating in this procession. In this way, UPDF (Prasit) is conspiring and spreading misinformation against JSS by using opportunists under false pretenses.
