Six Rohingyas detained in Bandarban while attempting illegal entry

Hill Voice, 17 November 2025, Bandarban: Six Rohingyas were detained during a search operation on a passenger bus in Bandarban Sadar Upazila. According to the police’s initial interrogation, the detainees had fled from the Ukhiya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar and were attempting to enter Bandarban illegally.

Last Saturday (15 November) evening, during a search of a passenger bus of Purabi Paribahan bound for Bandarban, six suspicious male passengers were detained. When asked to show their national ID (NID), they identified themselves as displaced citizens of Myanmar (Rohingya).

The detainees are: Rahimullah (24), Hashimullah (39), Hanif (25), Imam Hossain (27), Syad Alam (32) and Md. Sager (21).

In the initial interrogation, they were illegally traveling to Bandarban to work as construction workers from various Rohingya camps in Ukhia. Later, the army handed them over to the Sadar Police Station.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Bandarban Sadar Police Station, Md. Masud Parvez, said, “This evening, an army group handed over six Rohingyas to the police station. Appropriate legal action will be taken against them under the Bangladesh Government’s immigration laws.”

He further stated that there are thousands of Rohingyas in Bandarban. Some are working in rubber plantations, some in road construction and others as assistant laborers to masons.
