Rajiv Nagar NGOs and Village Councils reject fake report on ‘Russian arrest’, call it baseless and misleading

Hill Voice, 31 March 2026, International Desk: The Joint NGOs of Rajiv Nagar I and II villages comprising the Young Chakma Association (YCA), Chakma Mahila Samiti (CMS) and Mizoram Chakma Student Union (MCSU) in Mamit District (Mizoram) have taken serious note of false reports circulated in social media about arrest of a Russian national from Rajiv Nagar village.

Protest was made in a press statement signed by Kripa Charya Chakma, Secretary of Village Council of Rajiv Nagar-I, Dipanu Kar Chakma, President of Village Council of Rajiv Nagar-II, Monu Mahon Chakma, General Secretary of Rajibnagar Zone of YCA, Monan Chakma, President of Rajiv Nagar Zone of MCSU and Kendori Bala Chakma, President of Rajiv Nagar Zone of CMS on Tuesday (31 March).

The said NGOs stated that recently media reported about the arrest of a Russian national who was allegedly sent by PCJSS of Bangladesh. However, the report of arrest of the Russian national and linking to PCJSS from Rajiv Nagar, a Chakma-inhabited village, is totally baseless, false and fabricated.

An emergency joint meeting was convened on 30th March 2026 at the Zonal Young Chakma Association Hall, Rajiv Nagar, in response to a news report widely circulated through social media. The report claimed that a Russian national was detained in Rajivnagar, Mamit District, and further associated foreign activities in Chakma-inhabited areas of Mizoram. After detailed verification, the reports of arrest of Russian national from Rajiv Nagar was found to be false, misleading, and completely unverified (fake news).

The YCA, CMS and MCSU and local Village Councils have strongly condemned such false and fabricated news spread through newspaper media and social media for mala fide intention.

These Joint NGOs and Village Councils of Rajiv Nagar have also rejected the claims made by a socalled think thank NGO called Centre for Northeast India Security Studies (CNEISS) linking the arrest of the Russian national with Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) of Bangladesh.

The circulation of such unverified and misleading information is a matter of serious concern. It not only misguides the public but also harms the reputation, harmony, and credibility of Rajiv Nagar villages and area people. Such irresponsible statement and conduct will not be tolerated.

The said NGOs and Village Councils strongly caution all individuals, media houses, and digital platforms to exercise due diligence and verify facts before publishing or sharing any information about our villages.

They expect full cooperation from all concerned in maintaining truth, responsibility, and public order. Any person or entity found involved in spreading misinformation may be subject to social boycott and appropriate legal action under applicable laws, a statement issued by the Joint NGOs and Village Councils of Rajiv Nagar said.

An investigation by the Hill Voice reveals that this false and fabricated propaganda was disseminated on March 28 through a Facebook status update posted by Suhas Chakma Connect.
