Hill Voice, 27 March 2026, Panchari: Reports have emerged of one person being killed in a sudden burst of gunfire by armed terrorists belonging to the UPDF (Prasit) faction at Sutokarma Para in the Panchari Upazila of Khagrachari district today, Friday (March 27), at 8:30 AM.
The deceased has been identified as Nitidatta Chakma (48), son of Bornonatit Chakma, from the village of Uttar Shantipur, Ultachari Union, Panchari. It is reported that Nitidatta Chakma was a member of the UPDF (Democratic) faction.
According to sources, preparations were underway in the Sutokarma Para area for a ‘Biju Mela’ (fair), organized to celebrate the social festivals of the Chittagong Hill Tracts—Biju, Sangrai, Baisu, Changkran, and Bihu. The fair is scheduled to take place starting April 1st. As part of the preparations for this event, the victim had gone to the fairground area earlier in the morning and was resting at a local shop.
At that moment, armed terrorists affiliated with the UPDF arrived on motorcycles from the direction of Shantipur, shot Nitidatta Chakma—who was inside the shop—and fled the scene.
Subsequently, while in critical condition, he was transported to the Park Side Hospital in Khagrachari, where he passed away several hours later.
