New Chairman of CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission appointed

Hill Voice, 9 September 2025, Dhaka: Retired Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Land Dispute Resolution Commission. He has been appointed to this post for a period of three years.

The appointment was announced in a notification issued by the Survey-2 Branch of the Ministry of Land on August 28.

The notification signed by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Land ASM Saleh Ahmed in accordance the orders of the President said that Justice Hafiz has been appointed as the Chairman in accordance with the CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission Act, 2001.

The notification further states that Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz will receive the same salary, allowances and facilities as a judge of the Appellate Division while serving as the chairman of the Commission. However, his pension benefits will be suspended during his tenure and will be admissible later.

According to the copy sent by the Land Ministry, a letter in this regard has been sent to all concerned departments including the Cabinet Division, Office of the Chief Advisor, Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Law, Ministry of CHT Affairs, Supreme Court, CHT Regional Council.

A copy of the notification has also been sent to the secretary of the Commission in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Khagrachari.

Incidentally, the CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission was formed under the 2001 Act. This Commission is responsible for resolving long-standing land-related disputes in the hilly areas.
