Hill Voice, 16 May 2025, Bandarban: Recently, there have been reports of increased activities of armed cadres of the army-backed terrorist organization, the Marma National Party, also known as Mog Party in the Bandarban Upazila Sadar area of Bandarban district. It is reported that the activities of the Mog Party cadres have created panic among the locals.
According to local sources, armed members of the Mog Party were seen patrolling in broad daylight in Kuhalong and Rajvila areas of Bandarban Sadar Upazila yesterday (May 15) on Mahindra and motorcycles. At that time, Jahangir, president of Bangalhalia Bazar Samiti of Rajasthali Upazila of Rangamati district, was seen frequenting to Dolupara Army Camp in Kuhalong Union of Bandarban Sadar. Jahangir, the leader of the Awami League in Rajasthali, is known to be one of the patrons of the Mog Party. It is also known that this Jahangir mediates between the army and the Mog Party.
A source said that recently, some people from the government’s intelligence department in Bandarban expressed fears that the activities of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) are being strengthened in Bandarban. As a result, it is believed that the armed activities of the Mog Party have recently increased.
It is also known that on May 5, around 9 am, a Marma worker named Uthowai Marma (55) working on Udalbonia Ramatia Road was abducted by members of the Mog Party. Later, after interrogating and intimidating the worker, the Mog Party members released him. Three days after the incident, on May 8, an armed group of 12 members of the Mog Party was seen patrolling Rajvila in Bandarban Sadar Upazila. Locals alleged that the Mog Party cadres were roaming around openly in an armed state even during the army operation because they had the support and instructions of the army.
It is known that the general public in the Bandarban area are panicking due to the increase in armed activities by cadres of the Mog Party.
It is worth noting that on August 5, 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government, the local Jumma and Bengali mob destroyed the armed hideout of the Mog Party in the Bangal Halia area of Rajasthali. After that, the members of the Mog Party fled with their weapons after being chased by the mob. Some of them took shelter in the Bangal Halia army camp and some members fled towards the Dongnala area. Although there was silence for a few days, it was suddenly revealed that the chairman of the Bangal Halia Union Parishad, Adomong Marma, was kidnapped and at one point chairman Adomang Marma was released for 70 lakh taka by the Mog Party cadres.
So far, many businessmen and ordinary people have been victims of their terror, including the killing of Buddhist monks, members and supporters of the PCJSS. Local people allege that they have been subjected to torture when they oppose the many wrongdoings of the Mog Party and file complaints with the military and civil administration.
There have been long-standing allegations that the Mog Party was organized by the then Awami League leader, MP of Bandarban 300 Bir Bahadur, Bandarban Hill District Council Chairman Kwashwehla Marma, and Rangamati MP Dipankar Talukder and Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Aungsweprue Chowdhury to obstruct the movement to implement the CHT Accord and to destroy the Jana Samhati Samiti. Since then, the Mog Party has been carrying out various terrorist activities, including extortion, killing and threatening Jana Samhati Samiti members with the support of the army.
