Hill Voice, 27 June 2025, Dhaka: The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (Oikya Parishad) has expressed strong condemnation and outrage over the state-sponsored demolition of the Khilkhet Sarbojonin Durga Temple using a bulldozer without any prior notice. In a press release signed by acting general secretary Monindra Kumar Nath on 26 June, the Council condemned the demolition of the temple and the incident as a whole.
The press release stated, “Last year, the Khilkhet Sarbojonin Durga Temple was temporarily established. Due to waterlogging in the temple area, construction work was ongoing to pave the ground with bricks and sand. However, on the night of 23 June, a group of local miscreants verbally abused the Hindus with obscene language and attempted to vandalize the temple. When the temple authorities intervened, the miscreants left after issuing a one-day ultimatum, having failed to carry out the destruction. That same night, the president of the temple committee, Abinash Kumar Samajpati, filed a complaint at the local Khilkhet police station.”
“No prior notice or warning was given by Bangladesh Railway to the temple authorities regarding the relocation of the temple.”
“Yet on 26 June 2025, in the presence of Bangladesh Railway officials and police administration, the temple, along with its deities and idols, was completely demolished by bulldozer — something that is absolutely unacceptable in a sovereign and independent nation.”
