Frequent army operations in Kaptai area, causing panic among the people

Hill Voice, 20 June 2025, Rangamati: Recently, there have been reports that theBangladesh Army are conducting frequent military operations in the Jumma-dominated areas of Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati district. This has caused deep panic and anxiety among the locals and is disrupting normal life.

According to local sources, today, June 20, a 30-member army group led by Subedar Md. Hafiz, commander of the Gabaghona army camp under the Nobagato 38 Bengal Kaptai army zone, conducted a surprise army operation in Harinchara Muk Headman Para village of Ward No.2 of No.4 Kaptai Union. During this time, the army members went from house to house and interrogated the men and women of the village with various questions, embarrassing, intimidating and harassing them. At that time, panic and anxiety arose among the villagers. Many villagers stopped their normal movements due to fear.

As of the writing of this report, the said army group is reportedly stationed at Harinchara Mukh Government Primary School in Kaptai.

It is worth mentioning that earlier, on June 11, around the afternoon, a group of the army numbering 40 from Mitingachari Army Camp and Raikhali Narangiri Army Camp, led by Commander Md. Ashraf of Raikhali Mitingachari Army Camp under the Nabagato Bengal Kaptai Army Zone, took up position at Pekua Punarbasan Para Government Primary School in Chitmaram Union of Kaptai. After staying at the school all night, the army conducted a search on Chitmaram Pekua Para village at around 10 am on June 12. After conducting the search for a few hours, it is known that the army again took up position at the school. At this time, an atmosphere of fear was created among the villagers.
