Hill Voice, 22 August 2025, Rangamati: It has been alleged that a former Jumma Union Parishad (Union Council) member of Longadu Union in Longadu Upazila under Rangamati District, was abducted by anti-CHT Accord UPDF terrorists at around 10 pm yesterday (21 August).
The abducted person is identified as Nanda Kumar Chakma (58), son of Lalit Kumar Chakma, village-Kattoli Kukichara, Ward No.1, No.7 Longadu Union, Longadu Upazila.
According to local sources, around 10 pm yesterday, an armed group of UPDF terrorists numbering 14/15 led by commanders Chirajyoti Chakma alias Prabal and Kalaiye Chakma alias Mongpru alias Palak abducted Nanda Kumar Chakma from his house in Kukichara Kattali village.
Around one and a half hours after the kidnapping, at around 11:30 pm, they took Nanda Kumar Chakma to a place called Kattali Bhajyaghat and handed him over to another team led by UPDF Company Commander Shraban Chakma and Commander Pradipmoy Chakma alias Vishal alias Pagana, who were waiting there.
It is learnt that former public representative Nanda Kumar Chakma protested on behalf of the local people against various harassing activities including frequent extortion in the name of public budget, land protection budget, Buddhist monastery construction budget, school management budget, and orders to prepare meals for the groups of UPDF from time to time in various areas of Longadu, including closing the reservoir by installing nets in the Choto Kattali area.
And this is why local elders believe that Nanda Kumar Chakma was kidnapped. As of the writing of this report, it is not known whether the abductee has been released or where he is being held.
According to the latest news (as of 12:30 pm), it has been learnt that UPDF has demanded 1 lakh BDT as ransom from the victim’s family.
