Two PCP central members detained by army in Bandarban

Hill Voice, 20 May 2022, Bandarban: It has been alleged that two central members of the Parbattya Chattagram Pahari Chatra Parichad (PCP) (Chittagong Hill Tracts Student Council) have been arrested by Army personnel of Chemidalu Para Army Camp in Kuhalong Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila under Bandarban Hill District.

The incident took place on May 19, 2022, at around 2:00 pm in front of the Chemidalu army camp on the Bandarban-Rangamati road.

The two apprehended student leaders are T M Prue Marma, vice-president of PCP’s central committee and Thuinumong Marma is a central member. They were on their way to Rangamati on a motorbike to attend the 33rd founding anniversary of PCP and the 26th Central Council.

Today, 20 May 2022, PCP has organized a large public meeting on the occasion of the founding anniversary and council at the Gymnasium premises of Rangamati town. The huge gathering will be inaugurated by eminent educationist and intellectual Mongsanu Marma and President of Parbattya Chattagram Jana Samahati Samiti (PCJSS) Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma will be present as the chief guest.

According to local sources, at around 2:00 pm the student leaders T M Prue Marma and Thuinumong Marma were coming from Bandarban Sadar on a motorbike but the army stopped them as soon as they reached in front of the Chemidalu Para Army Camp. After that the army personnel detained the two student leaders and then sent them to Bandarban Sadar army zone.

It is known that T M Prue Marmar’s house is in Headman Para of Thanchi upazila and Thuinumong Marmar’s house is in Ruma Upazila. Both the detainees are from Bandarban district.

As of writing this report, the detained student-leaders have not been released.
