Hill Voice, 1 December 2023, Bandarban: After a meeting with the Peace Committee, armed terrorists of the KNF popularly known as Bawm Party have started a rampage in Ruma and Rowangchari upazilas of Bandarban district. The KNF armed members are carrying out anti-human activities like extorting money from the villagers, forcibly snatching pigs and rice, beating the villagers etc.
On November 25, 2023, the residents of Pyinong Mro Para of the same union were forced to pay 10,000 takas to KNF terrorists. The villagers were compelled to go to Bogalake and pay the money. On that day, the residents of Lengpui Mro Para of the same union were also supposed to pay 6,000 takas to KNF. But since the villagers could not pay the money on time, KNF has now almost doubled it to 1,000 to a total sum of 12,000. A total of 12 families live in the vallage.
Last November 23, 2023, around 9.30 pm, an armed group of KNF kidnapped two people named Uchosing Marma (25), S/o Ningneong Marma and Kyasa mong Marma (45), S/o Puong Marma from Shoiratong Para of Ruma Upazila.
It is known that at that time the two men were returning from Pongphrumak Para. After inhumane beating, they were released by KNF terrorists around 10 pm the same day. They were also interrogated in harassing way by the KNF terrorists like if they work with JSS or if they have contact with JSS and if there are guns in their village etc. The KNF terrorists even check their mobile phones to find out if they have number of any JSS member.
At the same time, a villager named Medu Marma (52) was pushed to the ground by KNF terrorists for no reason while fixing the water line of his house in the neighborhood.
Last November 22, 2023, at 11.30 pm, an armed group of KNF came down from Ronin Para and entered Daya Kumar Karbari Para (Tanchangya) of Alikhyong Union of Rowangchari Upazila. This time the biggest pig in the village was shot and taken by the KNF terrorists, the market value of which is around 20-23 thousand takas and all the guns of the neighborhood were forcibly taken away.
On November 21, 2023, an armed group of 10-12 people of KNF attacked Ramtong Para (Khumi dominated area) of Remakri Prangsa Union of Ruma Upazila. The KNF terrorists went to the neighborhood and demanded a big pig. As the villagers did not agree with that condition KNF members forcibly shot a big one. Besides, the KNF terrorists slapped and insulted Pilu Khumi, the Karbari of that village.
On November 16, 2023, KNF terrorists forcibly snatched 15,000 takas and 5 maunds of rice from Sangkhamoni Para (Tanchangya Para) of Rowangchari Upazila. Incidentally, earlier the KNF terrorists asked the villagers to pay 30,000 takas and 30 maunds of rice. KNF agreed to take 15,000 takas and 5 maunds of rice after much pleas from the villagers.
Also, for a long time, KNF terrorists have been demanding huge amount from the villages of Keokradong area of Ruma Upazila. For example, 20 thousand takas from 11 Kilo Para; 20 thousand takas from Mendon Mro Karbari Para; 10,000 takas from Umangri Para and 10,000 takas from Lelung Khumi Para.
It may be noted that since the meeting with the Peace Committee, the KNF terrorists have become reckless. One of the main points of understanding at the November 5 meeting was that the KNF and the army would not attack each other during the dialogue. Taking that opportunity, KNF is now carrying out various harassment activities on Marma, Tripura, Tanchangya, Mro and Khumi communities. On the contrary, the army continue to play a silent role even after reporting all the information to them.
