Jumma villagers harassed and house searched by Army in Jurachari

Hill voice, 31 March 2023, Rangamati: It has been alleged that six innocent Jumma villagers of Shilcharimon Para village in Jurachari upazila under Rangamati hill district have been subjected to temporary detention and harassment by Bangladesh Army. Apart from this, it is said that the army have carried out extensive harassing search of a Jumma house.

According to a source, yesterday on March 30, 2023, a 19-member army team led by a warrant officer of Shilchari army camp under Banojogichara army zone of Jurachari upazila went on a patrolling operation in Shilcharimon Para village of Ward No. 4 in Jurachhari union. At one stage at around 1:00 pm, the army team conducted a massive harassing search to Shanti Jiban Chakma’s house in the said village.

Meanwhile, the army team detained the six neighbors of the same village who came to visit Shanti Jiban Chakma’s house and took them to Ghilatali Junior High School. At that time, Major Ahte Shamsul Haque of Banajogichara Army Zone, who was stationed there, harassed them by asking various irrelevant questions and detained them for about three hours. Meanwhile, Major Ahte Shamsul Haque instructed 6 villagers to inform the army if any terrorist is found in the village.

The victim six villagers are- (1) Shanti Jiban Chakma, son of Nilachandra Chakma, (2) Sunil Chakma, son of Samrat Chakma, (3) Daniel Chakma, son of Shantashil Chakma, (4) Amar Chakma, son of Unidentified, ( 5) Name: Unknown (6) Name: Unknown.

As of the writing of this report, the three army teams are reported to be stationed in the three schools. The schools are- 1. Ghilatuli Junior High School, 2. Samira Government Primary School and 3. Chumachumi Government Primary School.
