Hindu Temple vandalized in Gazipur

Hill Voice, 12 September 2020, Gazipur: The Hindu Temple was vandalized in Gazipur. The incident took place at Miyapara of South Salna in Gazipur town, where a miscreant decapitated four idols of Sri Sri Kalimandir. The news was known on Friday morning.

General Secretary of the temple committee Ratan Chandra said that even though the temple is in the courtyard of their house, there is a road for people to pass by. The temple committee wanted to build a temple on the khas land next to the temple as the temple was small. But the people of Abdus Samad member prevented it. Dispute is going on with them about this. On Friday morning, he saw four idols of the temple vandalized and informed the police.

After the incident Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah-al-Zaki, ADC Crime (North) of the Metropolitan Police Abu Laich Mohammad Elijah Ziku, and local Ward Councillor visited Sri Sri Kali Mandir in South Salna Miyapara of the town on Friday morning.

Metropolitan Police ADC Abu Laich Jiku said four idols of Sri Sri Kalimandar had their heads severed from their necks. The matter is being investigated. Attempt to arrest the real culprit is going on.”

Tanvir Ahmed, Councillor of Gazipur Metropolitan Ward No. 19 said the temple committee had been in dispute with a local Abdus Samad member for setting up a temple for the last one and a half years. There were several meetings between the two sides in this regard. Although the temple committee claimed that the land was khas, Abdus Samad member showed the land document in favour of him.

He said that Hindus were living around the temple and if anyone tried to demolish the temple from outside, they would be caught. He thinks that a third party has broken the idol.
