Hill Voice, 22 November 2023, Rangamati: Allegation of Harassing patrol operation by the army have been received in Farua and Manikachhari upazila of Bilaichhari upazila under Rangamati district.
According to local sources, last Monday (November 20), a group of army numbering 15/20 personnel led by a subedar from Shukorchari army camp under 32 Bir Dighalchari army zone under Bilaichari upazila conducted a patrolling in Changarachari village of No. 5 Ward of neighboring Farua Union.
After going there, the soldiers asked if anyone knew Sanchay Chakma, s/o Tarendra Chakma, Babul Chakma, s/o- Chakammayi, Sujan Priya Chakma, s/o Bindu Lal Chakma, Bombu Chakma, s/o Rangapant.
After that, the army personnel caught a person named Sanchay Tanchangya because of the similarity of the name of Sanchay Chakma. The soldiers then took him inside the local village school where he was subjected to various harassing interrogations by the soldiers.
Later, when the victim showed his ID card, the army personnel reportedly released him as the names of his parents doesn’t match. Apparently locals are not aware of the reason why they are looking for those 4 persons.
Then today (November 22) at 9 am a group of army numbering 15 personnel under the leadership of a Subedar conducted a patrolling operation in Dheppochari No. 3 Ward of Sapchari Union from Manikchari Army Camp under Rangamati Sadar Upazila. After that the army personnel took up position at Deppochari Government Primary School. It is said that After patrolling the surrounding the army personnel are currently staying at school.
