A Jumma woman raped by Bengali settlers in Longadu

Hill Voice, 29 June 2023, Rangamati: It has been alleged that a Jumma woman (35) was raped by two Bengali settlers when she went to eat at an Eid invitation in the Atarakchara Bengali Para of Longadu Upazila under Rangamati Hill District.

The two Bengali rapists have been identified as (1) Md. Manjur (26), son of Md. Kamal, resident of No.1 Ward, Atarakchara Union and (2) Md. Rubel (26), son of Abbas, resident of No.4 Ward, Atarakchara Union.

It is learnt that the house of the victim woman is in Kangarahiye village of Merung union of Dighinala upazila under Khagrachari district, next to Atarakchara union.

According to the victim’s family and local sources, today (June 29) on the day of Eid-Ul-Adha of Muslim community, the victim woman along with her grandfather and grandmother and one of her uncles went to the house of a man named Md. Siddique in Atarakchara Bengali Para near their village to eat on the occasion of Eid.

At one point, the accused, Md. Manjur and Md. Rubel, also came to Siddique’s house. After some time, the victim left for home along with her grandfather and grandmother. At the same time, Md. Manjur and Md. Rubel also started following them. At one point, the two Bengali settlers stopped the victim woman and her grandfather and grandmother and scared the elderly grandfather and grandmother back home. After that, the two Bengali settlers forcibly took the Jumma woman to the nearby forest and raped her in turn and then left her unconscious by making her take anesthetic drugs.

Meanwhile, when the grandfather and grandmother of the woman reached the village and informed the relatives and villagers about the incident, they went in search of the woman. At one point, relatives and villagers found the victim in an almost unconscious state.

According to the latest news, the victim woman was called to the Atarakchara Union Parishad office in the presence of Ajay Chakma, Chairman of Atarakchara union parishad, Acting OC of Longadu police station Md. Iqbal Uddin, an officer of the army and others and the woman described the incident details in their presence. It is known that the family of the victim woman is preparing the case in this connection.
