A Jumma villager arrested by police in Mogban of Rangamati

Hill Voice, 28 October 2022, Rangamati: Police have reportedly arrested a Jumma villager and searched two houses from Dhanpata Natun Bazaar area of Mogban Union of Rangamati Sadar Upazila under Rangamati District. This incident happened in the early night of October 26, 2022.

According to local sources, a group of 15/20 policemen of Rangamati Kotwali police station went to the Natun Bazaar area of Mogban Union at around 2:00 am that day and surrounded the house of Samar Bijay Chakma (40), son of Akshay Moni Karbari. At that time, Samar Bijay Chakma was sleeping. The policemen then woke up the people of the house and entered the house, tied Samar Bijay Chakma with a rope and ransacked the house after searching the house. Meanwhile, the policemen seized the mobile phone used by Samar Bijay Chakma and some money.

Then at around 2:40 am, the police team went to the neighboring village of Tarengya Para with the arrested Samar Bijay Chakma. Meanwhile, the policemen surrounded the house of Babu Chakma (42), son of Robimanta Chakma of Tarengya Para and searched. Babu Chakma was not at home at that time. Then the policemen took Samar Vijay Chakma to the police station.

It is not known why the police arrested Samar Bijay Chakma. However, earlier it is reported that there was a case against Samar Bijay Chakma and Babu Chakma in Kotwali Police Station under the Forest Act.
