Hill Voice, 31 August 2021, Rangamati: It has been alleged that an innocent Jumma villager was injured in the indiscriminate firing of Bangladesh army in Chongrachari village area of Jibtali Union of Rangamati Sadar Upazila under Rangamati Hill District.
The injured have been identified as Tonak Chakma (32), s/o late Shuklacharjya Chakma of Chitmaram Ghat under Chitmaram Union of Kaptai Upazila. Tonak Chakma is currently living at father-in-law’s house in Chongrachari village. It is known that he is a jum-farmer in Chongrachari.
According to local sources, a group of army personnel from Kaptai Army Zone came to patrol Chongrachari village area in the early hours of the night and ambushed there. Meanwhile, around 4:00 am, some villagers were going to the market to sell various vegetables. At that time, the members of the army fired indiscriminately at the villagers who were going to the market. Tonak Chakma was injured in the hand in this shooting. At that time, Tonak Chakma and others fled wherever they could for fear.
According to villagers, a member of the UPDF (Democratic) terrorist group named Paranadhan Chakma was seen with the army on patrol. Paranadhan Chakma stays at the base (hideout) area of Reformist and UPDF (Democratic) terrorists in Jibtali Chairman Para. His home is in the neighboring village of Kamilachari.
